Habitats

2330 Inland dunes with open Corynephorus and Agrostis grasslands

Priority habitat: NO

Subject of protection in project sites: Pánov

Within this type of natural habitat, two habitat types are distinguished, both occurring at the Pánov site:

T5.2 - Open sand grasslands with Corynephorus canescens

Description: Initial vegetation of disturbed sands with low cover and a height of around 10 cm. These are species-poor communities with dominant species of grey hair-grass (Corynephorus canescens) and other psammophytic and competitively weak species, such as wingstem spurry (Spergula pentandra), drooping brome (Bromus tectorum), small cudweed (Filago minima), common stork's-bill (Erodium cicutarium), and little mouse-ear (Cerastium semidecandrum). The habitat is extremely important for psammophytic invertebrate species because of the low vegetation cover and the high representation of exposed substrate.

T5.3 - Festuca sand grasslands

Description: A more advanced succession stage characterized by sparse but stratified grasses with the dominance of fescues (Festuca spp.) and bent grasses (Agrostis spp.). Psammophytic species are sparse, dry grassland species are common, such as purple mullein ( Verbascum phoeniceum), field wormwood (Artemisia campestris), the yarrow species Achillea setacea, wall germander (Teucrium chamaedrys), and Carthusian pink (Dianthus carthusianorum subsp. latifolius.).

Habitat extension in the Czech Republic:

In the Pannonic biogeographical area, which includes the Pánov project site, the habitat only occurs in the area of Hodonín and Bzenec sands.

Scope and status in terms of protection in the project area:

In 2010, the percentage of T5.2 habitat at the Pánov site was reported as 16.74% and T5.3 habitat as 27.08%. Since then, the percentage has decreased significantly due to ongoing successive changes and ruderalization of stands. T5.2 habitat occurrence is limited to the surroundings of roads occasionally used by vehicles and, compared to the state when the territory was used by the military, the recent occurrence is fragmentary. T5.3 habitat is currently mostly influenced by the invasion of wood small-reed ( Calamagrostis epigejos), the meadow-grass species Poa angustifolia, and red fescue (Festuca rubra).

6260 Pannonic sand steppes

Priority habitat: YES

Subject of protection in project sites: Pánov

Description: Follow-up succession stage to the previous habitat. It occurs on frequently disturbed, dry and nutrient-poor areas of silica sands. They are open grasslands most commonly with the dominance of grey hair-grass (Corynephorus canescens), festuca species (Festuca vaginata subsp. dominii), and bunchgrass species (Stipa borysthenica). There is a combination of moving sand dune species and solid sandy soils species, Pannonic elements are typical: brown bent-grass ( Agrostis vinealis), the thrift species Armeria elongata, the meadow oat-grass species Avenula pratensis ssp. hirtifolia, the sedge species Carex stenophylla, weak Arctic sedge (Carex supina), spotted knapweed (Centaurea stoebe), Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon), field eryngo (Eryngium campestre), diffuse wallflower (Erysimum diffusum), cypress spurge (Euphorbia cyparissias), sheep's fescue (Festuca ovina), lady's bedstraw (Galium verum), night-scented stock (Hesperis tristis), sheep's bit scabious (Jasione montana), crested hair-grass (Koeleria macrantha), hoary cinquefoil (Potentilla argentea), the cinquefoil species Potentilla arenaria, the buttercup species Ranunculus illyricus, sheep's sorrel (Rumex acetosella), Spanish catchfly (Silene otites), the campion species Silene viscosa, hairy feather grass (Stipa capillata), and Breckland thyme (Thymus serpyllum). Lichens are common, especially of the genus Cladonia, and acrocarpic mosses, such as Ceratodon purpureus and Polytrichum piliferum.

Habitat extension in the Czech Republic:

One of the most valuable habitats in the Czech Republic. Its occurrence is limited only to the area of windblown sands between Hodonín and Bzenec. The total habitat area in the Czech Republic is estimated at 0.32 km2.

Scope and status in terms of protection in the project area:

In 2010, the percentage of the habitat on the entire Pánov site was reported as 13.78% (Losík 2010). The habitat is spread mainly in the southern half of the site and is currently threatened by the growth of invasive species, mainly wood small-reed (Calamagrostis epigejos).

6210 Semi-natural dry grasslands and scrubland facies on calcareous substrates (Festuco-Brometalia)

Priority habitat: NO

Subject of protection in project sites: Mašovická střelnice and Načeratický kopec.

Other sites with the habitat occurrence: Blšanský chlum

Within this type of natural habitat, two habitat types are distinguished.

T3.3D Narrow-leaved dry grassland - vegetation without significant occurrence of orchids

Description: Species-rich stratified grasslands developing on various types of soils, mainly basic soils, with the dominance of tufted grasses of Volga fescue (Festuca valesiaca), dwarf sedge (Carex humilis) and various speargrass species (Stipa ssp.).

T3.5B Acidophilic dry grassland without significant occurrence of orchids

Description: Low and mostly stratified grasslands on sunny slopes with the dominance of various grass species, mainly sheep's fescue ( Festuca ovina), the festuca species F. rupicola, meadow oat-grass (Avenula pratensis), and purple-stem cat's-tail (Phleum phleoides). There are many flowering plants, with the occurrence of many types of dry grasslands, such as common bent-grass ( Agrostis capillaris), brown bent-grass (A. vinealis), sheep's bit scabious (Jasione montana), sticky catchfly (Lychnis viscaria) and sheep's sorrel (Rumex acetosella).

Habitat extension in the Czech Republic:

The habitat is spread mainly in warm areas.

Scope and status in terms of protection in the project area:

At Načeratický  kopec site, T3.3D habitat covers 15% and T3.5B habitat covers 35%. The habitat status is relatively good, but at the bottom of the slopes it is degraded by false oat-grass.

At Mašovická střelnice, the habitat reaches of 45% of the site area. The habitat status is unfavourable, and vegetation without management is gradually degrading.

6210 Semi-natural dry grasslands and scrubland facies on calcareous substrates (Festuco-Brometalia) (important orchid sites)

Priority habitat: YES

Subject of protection in project sites: Mašovická střelnice

Description: The vegetation structure and composition are similar to the T3.5B habitat, but with the occurrence of orchids. Namely it is a population of elder-flowered orchid (Dactylorhiza sambucina).

Scope and status in terms of protection in the Czech Republic:

The habitat is spread mainly in warm areas.

Scope and status in terms of protection in the project area:

At the project site, the habitat covers an area of 1.5 ha. The habitat status is rather degraded and unfavourable.

8230 Siliceous rock with pioneer vegetation of the Sedo-Scleranthion or of the Sedo albi-Veronicion dillenii

Priority habitat: NO

Subject of protection in project sites: Načeratický  kopec

Description: Vegetation developing in places with rocky bedrock and underdeveloped soil horizons. It is characterized by a high proportion of ephemeral plants, mosses, lichens and, to varying degrees, types of acidic grassland.

Habitat extension in the Czech Republic:

The habitat is spread in small-scale occurrences throughout the Czech Republic, especially on rocks, gorge-like river valleys and similar locations.

Scope and status in terms of protection in the project area:

At this site, this type of vegetation covers 20%. It occurs in places with exposed substrate which were created here due to frequent movement of heavy military equipment in the second half of the 20th century and it has survived to the present day. The habitat is often found in a mosaic with dry grassland.
