Final Conference of the Military LIFE for Nature project

Conference: NATURE CONSERVATION AND ABANDONED MILITARY AREAS

The main purpose of the Military LIFE for Nature project is the restoration and conservation of rare speciesof plants and animals that need continuous soil disruption for their survival.Over the five years, the project has provided management of wildlife in former military areas, which are comparable in importance to the most valuable Czech protected areas. To maintain their biodiversity, these sites require a dynamic landscape mosaic, which in the past was provided by active military training. In the current conditions after the army's departure, it is necessary to replace it with other approaches.

  • Presenting the project and its achievements.
  • Sharing experience with conservation management of valuable natural sites formedin the past by military training in Central Europe.
  • Innovative approaches to conservation management.
  • Research on the biodiversity of abandoned military areas.
  • Targeted interventions in favour of species of early successional habitats.
  • Field trips to the project sites in South Moravia region.
