Important species

From the zoological point of view, Načeratický kopec is one of the most important xerothermic sites in South Moravia and it is also one of the most valuable abandoned military areas in the Czech Republic. It is important not only for the area of  steppe habitats, but also for the long continuity of forest-free areas and the maintenance of regularly disturbed areas, at least in a small part of its area. More systematic inventory surveys were carried out on selected groups of invertebrates, especially beetles and butterflies. More than 230 species of beetles have been recorded here, of which 6 are specially protected and 30 species are included on the Red List of Endangered Species. Exceptionally important findings include Sphaenoptera substriata, leaf beetles Cryptocephalus schaefferi and Cheilotoma musciformis, and the weevil Anthonomus rubripes. As for butterflies, at least 5 specially protected species and 20 taxa included on the Red List of Endangered Species were recorded here; these include the critically endangered (in the Czech Republic) chaste pellicle (Watsonarctia casta) and Baltic grayling (Chelis maculosa).

The site is of trans-regional importance for two species of birds listed in Annex I of the Habitats Directive - the barred warbler (Sylvia nisoria) and the red-backed shrike (Lanius collurio). Načeratický Hill represents one of the most important sites of the thermophilic flora of the south-eastern edge of the Bohemian Massif.

In addition to the predominant dry grasslands, there are several other vegetation types more limited in area - low xerothermic scrubs with burnet rose (Rosa spinosissima) and European dwarf cherry (Prunus fruticosa), fragments of dry heath with hairy greenweed (Genista pilosa) or vegetation with stonecrops and spring ephemera in a mosaic with acidophilic grasslands of shallow soils at exposed places around rocky outcrops.

Of the total of 290 taxa recorded here by the inventory survey, 11 are specially protected and 69 taxa are listed in the Black and Red List of Vascular Plants in the Czech Republic.
