Tank day

Public events

You can start looking forward to the next Tank Day, which will take place on the first Friday and Saturday in September (1 and 2 September 2017).

More information will be available soon -  follow our website and Facebook.

One of the first events of the project, which took place in the spring, was Tank Day on Načeratický kopec, 4 and 5 April 2017. Look at the photo gallery to see what it looked like.

Heavy equipment in nature conservation services

Although military activity and heavy equipment are not the most natural things we can imagine in terms of nature conservation, they replace processes that are currently missing in the landscape.

Research conducted in 42 former military areas showed that 73% of all Czech species of day butterflies can be found in places once used by the military. Another comparison showed that there are more species there on average than in small-scale areas (49 v 37), but there are more rare species in protected areas (4 v 5). The results in terms of plants and birds are not that clear, yet they show that in military areas there are mainly rare species bound to the open landscape, which are often missing in protected areas.

The Military LIFE for Nature project cares for two former military areas - Načeratický kopec and Pánov - by methods that resemble the presence of the army. Disturbance management will return conditions to the site that prevailed there until 1989 and will also involve the local community in the protection of this significant area.
